Pilates

Pilates is yet another popular form to get in shape. Many fitness gurus do pilates to gain better balance and flexibility, as well as improving posture, coordination, breathing, and concentration. So, what’s the difference between Pilates and Yoga? Well, both pilates and yoga offer stress-relief, improvement in flexibility, strength, body control, and endurance. The difference between the two, however, is the emphasis on the spiritual component in classes. Pilates classes focus on strength, muscle toning, body control, and flexibility, with the main emphasis being core strength. Yoga, on the other hand, focuses on flexibility and broad muscle groups, offering balance endurance. Pilates is extremely beneficial for the body, and everyone should try it! You can do this at home, or join a pilates class to make it a bit more fun. Pilates also has a fascinating background.

Joseph Pilates, founder of the Pilates methods, was born in Germany in 1883. As a child, he had asthma and other ailments. He exercised to battle these ailments and became enamored by the classical Greek ideal of a man balanced in body, mind, and spirit. It is so that he developed his own exercise system on this very concept.

In 1926, Joseph immigrated to the United States, and opened a fitness studio in New York, sharing an address with the New York City Ballet. He started out by training many ballerinas and other dancers, but soon Pilates was growing popular outside New York as well. Now a days, it’s only too popular and everyone seems to be running to their next Pilates class. If you aren’t one of them, you for sure should give it a go!

Yoga

Yoga has grown more and more popular over the past couple of years. Most of you have probably heard of it, and some may even be familiar with it. But for those of you who aren’t, yoga is a Hindu spiritual and ascetic discipline including breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures. It’s widely practiced for health and relaxation, and yes, its is a workout. The yoga-obsessed are known as a yogi or yogis. Yogi Kerstin Linnartz says yoga is a way of connecting your body, mind, and soul, which is why it is an attractive workout for so many. There is such a big variety of types of yoga to choose from – hot yoga, ab building, weight loss, flexibility, strength, focus, before sleep, morning yoga, etc.-  everyone can find the type that suits them best or the one that works best for them at that point. Yoga can be practiced in a fitness studio, in a yoga class, and even at home. You can practice yoga anywhere and is such a great way to be active, improving flexibility, posture, prevents cartilage and joint breakage, increases blood flow, drains your lymph and boosts immunity, helps you focus, boosts your immune system, etc., the list just goes on. Of course, it is strongly recommended that you give it a go, and if you like it, thats ok

11 Benefits of Exercise

It’s no secret that exercise is a great way to get in shape and to stay in shape. Exercise has always been part of my weekly routine, as a competing athlete, and it is so that I have learned the values of being active. It’s a way to keep your legs lean, your muscles toned, to get your heart racing. But not only that; exercise has countless emotional and psychological benefits, too! I’ll be listing some of those mental benefits I’m talking about so that you get a better idea of just how important exercise really is.

1.Increases Stress Resilience

When you exercise, hormones that cause stress and anxiety are suppressed.

2.Reduces Anxiety

3. … It makes you happy!

During exercise, endorphins are released. Endorphins are natural mood boosters that enhance feelings of optimism and satisfaction. While exercise promotes the generation of this hormone, the generation of hormones such as adrenalin and cortisol are reduced, and thereby feeling of anxiety and tension reduces as well.

4. Fights Depression
In 1999, a study proves how patients with depression who started to exercise show the same signs of recovery as patients on anti-depression medication. Exercise is therefore, a natural form of fighting depression, while making your body more lean!

5. Speeds up your mind

6.Consolidates long term memory

7.Boosts self-control

8. Reduces risks of Alzheimer

9. Improves children’s school performance

children who engage in sports or exercise tend to be better at school

10. Better Sleep

and lastly..

11. It can be so fun!!
You can engage in any sport of your interest or go to the gym with a workout buddy.

Protein Shakes: Will they do the trick?

You see fitness trainers and gym fanatics stack up on their protein supplements just about too often. Protein powders, pills, shakes, you name it, it’s out there.  Boys and men like to “bulk up” and build on to the muscle and buy protein supplements hoping that they will do the trick. The truth is, protein powders are not some magic potion that you can consume that will ensure that you will wake up the next day will perky biceps or shoulder muscles. Protein supplements are in fact unhealthy for you, because you receive all protein necessary through the food that you eat. Protein Supplements probably mean that you are taking in excess amounts of protein, which is extremely unhealthy for your kidneys. Not to mention that protein supplements are all lab made, and not natural whatsoever.

My recommendations to build healthy muscle is to eat clean foods rich in natural protein and exercise. Eating right is the key to building muscles that are there to stay. There’s no need for protein supplements.

Ingredients

1 cup of fresh spinach

half a mango

one or two bananas

⅓ of a cucumber

3 celery sticks

1 cup of berries of your choice

As for toppings, you may add whatever suits you. Personally, I like to top my smoothies with acai powder, some watermelon juice, chia seeds, and/or wheatgrass powder.

Processed Foods

It is no secret that processed foods aren’t the best for you. It is strongly recommended by many professional nutritionists to cut out processed foods and build our diet around something that has become very popular among the healthy eaters: clean foods. To those of you who are wondering what clean food is, it’s this: foods that have not at all been altered from its natural state in any way. This means that anything that comes in a box, bag, can, or package is processed and should be kept out of your diet. Of course, there are exceptions to this rule (like a bag of fresh beans), but for the most part, foods that come in such packaging are breakfast cereals, hot dogs and other processed meats, sodas, Granola bars, pre-made condiments, and salad dressing..the list just goes on. It harder for some people to lead healthy diets than others because processed foods are typically much easier and faster to prepare than clean foods. Clean foods tend to be pricier than processed foods, but are definitely worth it! You have to remember that the added sugars, salts, fast, coloring and flavoring are bad for you, and it’s important to invest in your body.
